About the Author

Greg Chapman has long had an interest in computers. He applied to transfer to the Westminster Bank's computer department in 1967 when he was working in a branch of the bank in Sussex. However, an early career in computing was not to be and he didn't get to play with a computer properly until 1978, gaining his first computing qualification in 1980.

Since then he has been involved in encouraging the use of computers in many different fields. In the 1980s he was editor of one of the sections of the Sharp Users Club's magazine and managed a "computer camp" holiday project for deprived children. The 1990s saw him installing computer systems and networks in a local authority Emergency Planning office and later working as the Information Systems Training Manager for a County Council's Social Services Department.

After an early retirement in 1998, he began teaching various computing classes for beginners for his local Adult Education service. These include the well-known CLAIT and CLAIT Plus qualifications. He maintains a popular web site, providing help to tutors and students for these courses.

Beyond computing, his interests include boating and the inland waterways of England and Wales. He runs a website that provides updates to popular waterways guides and writes a column for Norfolk Afloat magazine.
